ให้ (hâi)
The verb “ให้” means provide, offer, and permit. Also, the word “for” in prepositions. You can use this word in a variety of ways, depending on the situation and context. You can adapt these examples to fit your particular circumstances.
“ให้ (hâi)” To give (to give something to someone)
pâw hâi dòkmái mâe พ่อให้ดอกไม้แม่ – Dad gives mom flowers.
(optional)(formal) gàe แก่ (prep) means to, for: pâw hâi dòkmái gàe mâe พ่อให้ดอกไม้แก่แม่ – Dad gives flowers to mom.
(optional)(informal) gàb กับ (prep) means with, (conj) means and: pâw hâi dòkmái gàb mâe พ่อให้ดอกไม้กับแม่ – Dad gives flowers to mom.
pǒm/chán hâi aahǎan mǎa ผม/ฉันให้อาหารหมา – I feed the dog.
mâe hâi ngern pâw แม่ให้เงินพ่อ – Mom gives dad money.
yàag อยาก – want | yàag hâi อยากให้ – want to give pâw yàag hâi dòkmái mâe พ่ออยากให้ดอกไม้แม่ Dad wants to give mom flowers.
mâe yàag hâi ngern pâw แม่อยากให้เงินพ่อ Mom wants to give dad money.
pǒm/chán yàag hâi aahǎan mǎa ผม/ ฉันอยากให้อาหารหมา I want to feed the dog.
khun yàag hâi aahǎan mǎa คุณอยากให้อาหารหมา You want to feed the dog.
jà จะ – will | jà hâi จะให้ – will give pâw jà hâi dòkmái mâe พ่อจะให้ดอกไม้แม่ Dad will give mom some flowers.
mâe jà hâi ngern pâw แม่จะให้เงินพ่อ Mom will give dad money.
pǒm/chán jà hâi aahǎan mǎa ผม/ ฉันจะให้อาหารหมา I will feed the dog.
khun jà hâi aahǎan mǎa คุณจะให้อาหารหมา You will feed the dog.
ให้ (hâi) Permission (to permit someone to perform an action) & (to make someone do something)
mâe hâi pǒm/chán bpai ngaan léang kuennée แม่ให้ผม/ฉันไปงานเลี้ยงคืนนี้ – Mom allowed me to go to the party tonight.
yàag hâi อยากให้ – want to force someone to do something mâe yàag hâi nóng bpai dûay แม่อยากให้น้องไปด้วย Mom wants my sister to go with me.
mâe hâi pǒm/chán gàb nóng glàb bâan gàwn tîeng kuen แม่ให้ผม/ฉันกับน้องกลับบ้านก่อนเที่ยงคืน – Mom made my sister and me come home before midnight.
mâe yàag hâi pǒm/chán gàb nóng glàb bâan gàwn tîeng kuen แม่อยากให้ผม/ฉันกับน้องกลับบ้านก่อนเที่ยงคืน – My mom wants my sister and me to come home before midnight.
mâi ไม่ – no | mâi hâi ไม่ให้ – not allow mâe mâe mâi hâi pǒm/chán bpai ngaan léang kuennée แม่ไม่ให้ผม/ฉันไปงานเลี้ยงคืนนี้ – Mom’s not allowed me to go to the party tonight.
mâe mâi yàag hâi pǒm/chán bpai ngaan léang kuennée แม่ไม่อยากให้ผม/ฉันไปงานเลี้ยงคืนนี้ – Mom doesn’t want me to go to the party.
mâi yàag hâi tam ไม่อยากให้ทำ – Don’t want you to do it.
mâi yàag hâi bpai ไม่อยากให้ไป – Don’t want you to go.
hâi káo bpai gàwn ให้เขาไปก่อน – Let them go first.
hâi pûean yuam ngern ให้เพื่อนยืมเงิน – I lend my friend money.

kǎw hâi khun mee kwaam sùk láe sùkkàpâab kǎeng raeng ขอให้คุณมีความสุขและสุขภาพแข็งแรง Wishing you happiness and good health.

pâw súe dòkmái hâi mâe พ่อซื้อดอกไม้ให้แม่ – Dad bought flowers for mom.
mâe tam gàb kâao hâi pâw แม่ทำกับข้าวให้พ่อ – Mom cooks for dad.
krai tam hâi ใครทำให้ – Who did that for …who..? (Sometimes, an object ofter hâi ให้ is omitted in terms of the speaker knowing who made that for who.)

krai tam hâi khun ใครทำให้คุณ – Who did that for you?
pûean tam hâi เพื่อนทำให้ – My friends did that.
pûean tam hâi pǒm/chán เพื่อนทำให้ผม/ฉัน – My friends did that for me.
pûean tam hâi khun เพื่อนทำให้คุณ – Your friends did that for you.
- Dad asked: krai tam gàb kâao hâi pǒm ใครทำกับข้าวให้ผม – Who cooked for me?
- Mom said: chán tam gàb kâao hâi khun ฉันทำกับข้าวให้คุณ – I cooked for you.
